Thanks to our friend Darv who pointed out that our Fun Fact was a Fun False! Apparently, the ATF doesn't define a lower limit for alcohol levels to classify wine as "Table Wine" in the USA. 14% is defined as the upper limit of table wine, otherwise wines are classified as dessert or fortified wines. Sparkling wines (you know, those with bubbles) are not table wines either.
We loved a Shiraz last night at Wine Down in West Reading, with a APV (alcohol by volume) level of 14.7%. It was not fortified, was not a dessert wine (although we saved it for last and would have LOVED dark chocolate with it), but guess it wasn't legally a table wine either. Whatever it was, we loved it.
All for now, thanks Darv for finding the Fun Falsity in our Fun Fact.
Dean and Lisa (Vintage Connections, WNELVRS, and other aka's).
